SEO Performance - A Review

In terms of website design, there are several components.

In order for the website to be effective, it must…

  • Be visually appealing (current design / layout / appropriate colors)

  • Have a compelling message relevant to the target market formatted in a way that the search engines like

  • Be easy to navigate so that this information can be found by the visitor

  • Be fast (no one likes a slow website)

These things make a potential visitor like your website more and hopefully convert into contacting you. However, to be found, the search engines must like the website as well. There are certain search engine optimization techniques to implement (both on-page and off-page) to make the search engines like you also. For us these on-page techniques include the following:

  • Page specific Titles / Descriptions / Content / Keyword tags / Permalinks (page name url) written within seo standards of length / duplication and with certain target market (not search engine) relevant keywords in mind and without keyword stuffing.

  • Addition of robots.txt file

  • Addition of .htaccess file (used for page speed, 301 redirects (avoid duplicate content) & 404 (page not found) redirects

  • Addition to canonical tags to avoid duplicate content

  • Addition of xml sitemap for submission to search engines

  • Confirmation of no broken links (internal or external)

  • Image Optimization (name, alt text, size) via Kraken or Tiny Png

  • Implementation of gzip compression for page speed via server size settings if possible

  • Implementation of code for Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools Verification.

  • Ensuring the website is connected to social media via FB OG Tags and / or Google Plus tags with links to profiles.

  • Ensuring the website is mobile friendly and renders correctly in all major browsers including mobile browsers (apple and android), IE8-Edge, Chrome, Firefox & Safari.

  • Unless handwritten, code is subject to how the tool generates it.

We employ these techniques to the best of our ability considering the tool used to build this website.

Even though properly optimizing a WIX website can be very difficult, it comes with certain apps & plugins (free & paid) to help. In this case, WIX has an internal seo wizard / audit tool under site – site settings. Titles, Descriptions, Keywords, H1/H2 tags, xml sitemaps, robots.txt / .htaccess files, Google Webmaster Tools verification are all managed internally. Image compression is managed externally prior to upload. Google Analytics is a paid option. Additional SEO apps are available within the WIX app market. The results are below:

  • W3C errors

  • Google Page speed = 96% for desktop & 45% for mobile with % in UX (green/red/green lights respectively)

  • GT Metrix Site Performance = 98% for Page Speed & 98% for YSlow (green / yellow respectively).

    • 2 sec load time

    • 1.10 MB page size

    • 62 requests

  • Lighthouse =

  • SEO Site Check-up =

  • SEO Quake =

If you are going to build a website, why not build one that is more than just pretty? Why not build one that is worthy of being found via solid on-page seo techniques?

Off-Page SEO includes the constant generation of new content with a link that points back to the website. This is called content marketing and relevant link building. WIX can be very good at this. Simply add a blog to your website and set it up so it is shared on social media.

Depending on your needs (including maintenance) as well as budget, I can most likely build for you a custom website that can look almost exactly like your favorite WIX template but is more technically sound in terms of on-page seo and html errors. I can even include a blog. Either I can maintain the website for you (including a blog & sharing on social media) or show you how to via my affordable desktop software. Contact me for more information.

If you need help with your WIX website, please don’t hesitate to let me know. Contact us for more information.
