ABOUT WIX

WIX is a free self-hosted do-it-yourself web-based templated drag-and-drop website builder whereby one can relatively easily build a website for their passion, hobby or small business. It enables the user to intuitively drag and drop objects onto a page, anywhere on the page with pixel perfect accuracy in an effort to build a beautiful, modern website. It has all of the elements necessary to build a website indicative of today’s standards, including beautiful modern mobile-friendly templates, an easy to use platform, secure code, and reliable hosting.

Pros of using WIX

The pros of using WIX is the ability to drag and drop anything almost anywhere onto the page with pixle perfect accuracy. This means you are not restricted by the confines of the template chosen - only your imagination. Also, WIX comes with many templates as well as images to choose from. Then there are the countless apps available to make your website powerful.

Cons of using WIX

The cons of using WIX are that at the end of the day, it is not so much template based or even difficult to learn but that it is still a web-based website bulder. You are relying on WIX, as a host, to be a powerful fast secure host with customer service that is second to none. In addition, as easy as it is to use, it still has a learning curve to maximize its potential. You have better things to do.

IMPORTANT - The biggest downside to using any self-hosted web-based website builder is that if for any reason you become disatisfied with the host due to performance of it as a host or staff customer service, and you want to leave, you cannot take your website with you. It must be rebuilt from scratch with your new host of choice. If you are sure WIX is for you, and I have no reason to thing otherwise - yet, then read on...

Page Set Up

The page is set up with a header, body, and footer complete with page width rulers. Items in header and footer will show on all pages. Each page is fixed at 980px wide (narrow enough for iPads but possibly too narrow for desktop computers). For this reason it is advised to ensure all content is within these boundaries. A separate mobile version of the site is available for design separately via editor view in the upper right. It behaves the same as the desktop editor.

Adding Content

Now you are ready to add content to your pages. Simply click "add" to add items to your page. Items to add include text, images, galleries, shapes, apps and much more. Once added, if you click on the item, it should give you another toolbar. Click settings (with the item selected) to customize the item. each page should have 1 keyword rich page title (h1), paragraph titles (h2), paragraphs and of course images. Be sure the design is visually appealing, compelling, and easy to digest.

Search Engine Optimization

When all of the content has been added (keyword rich page titles (h1), paragraph titles (h2) and text paragraphs - just don't over do it), be sure to go back to the pages toolbar and click on the circle with the 3 dots to update that pages seo: the titles, descriptions, and keywords. Ensure the keywords match in both areas. Just be sure to not "keyword stuff". Then be sure to head over to "site - site settings - seo to go through the seo wizard. Just be advised that some newer themes may not support older browsers such as IE 8.
